Browser Requirements

Certain browser settings may cause you to experience performance problems with Blackboard. Blackboard works best with Mozilla Firefox, Netscape Navigator, or with versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer older than 7. If you use any other browser, you may experience problems viewing course material in Blackboard. In order to use Blackboard your browser must have Cookies, Java, and JavaScript enabled.

The following browser configurations are recommended by Blackboard:

  • Windows XP Operating System: Internet Explorer 6.0 or Netscape Navigator 7.0
  • Windows 2000 Operating System: Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6.0, Netscape Navigator 4.77 or 7.0
  • Macintosh OS 9.2: Internet Explorer 5.1 or Netscape Navigator 4.77 or 7.0
  • Macintosh OS X.1: Internet Explorer 5.1 or 5.2 or Netscape Navigator 7.0
  • Macintosh OS X.2: Internet Explorer 5.2 or Netscape Navigator 7.0

In addition, our experience is that Mozilla Firefox 2.x works well. However, we have received reports of some problems with Blackboard from users using Internet Explorer. If you receive an "Internal Server Error" when accessing files in Blackboard using Internet Explorer, please update your Internet Explorer browser. Updates can be found on Microsoft's web site here.
